Crucified Toad 4

History gets even more convoluted as Britton's Weird Fantasy (later Bognor Regis) takes over the Crucified Toad name begun by John Muir. This issue reprints one of the first articles on Mervyn Peake from the late 1940s by David H Keller, a Weird Tales writer who was a contemporary of HP Lovecraft and author of The Thing in the Cellar. The piece is garnished with a fine selection of Peake artwork. The Moorcock Elric piece was rescued from Niekas, an American magazine of 1963 and, together with The Secret Life of Elric of Melniboné (from Weird Fantasy #1) was collected in the first Savoy paperback, Sojan (1977).

The in-depth interview with Brian W Aldiss was produced especially for this edition and, like the Garner interview in Bognor Regis, is essential.

Cover: Elric by James Cawthorn.
